Late humour ...

An old, blind Marine wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake.

He finds his way to a bar stool and orders a shot of Jack Daniels.

After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?'

The bar immediately falls absolutely silent.

In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says,

'Before you tell that joke I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things:

1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.

2. The bouncer is a blonde girl.

3. I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate.

4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weight lifter.

5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.

Now, think about it seriously, do you still wanna tell that blonde joke?'

The blind Marine thinks for a second, shakes his head and mutters, 'No...not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'

Southport artist Neil Prior will be exhibiting at the SCA Art House on Eastbank Street from Tuesday 23rd April with his exhibition of oil paintings entitled 'Behind The Curtain'
The exhibition opening is 6.30 pm - 8pm and refreshments are provided.
Neil's paintings masterfully weave light and shadow to breathe life into interiors and everyday objects, imbuing them with a profound sense of realism. His artistry pays homage to the Old Masters, particularly Caravaggio and Vermeer, as he skillfully resurrects their timeless brilliance in a modern context.

**Green Party candidates call for footpath improvements for The Stray**

Husband and wife team, Stephen and Pauline Hesketh, who are standing for the Green Party in Cambridge and Meols Wards are calling on Sefton Council to lay a proper footpath along the three sections of the Stray running between Preston New Road and Balmoral Drive.

Although the Stray is now maturing woodland planted by forward-looking volunteers in the 1980’s, it actually marks the historical path of the Old Pool waterway where it originally made its way to the sea.

If you look into the grounds of Meols Hall from Church Bridge, it is possible to see something of the original wide, meandering, nature of the ancient Otters Pool river.

On the opposite side of the bridge, the river was widened in Victorian times in order to form Botanic Gardens lake. Beyond the old stone bridge at the seaward end of the lake, the watercourse resumes something of its original form before entering a probably now-blocked culvert immediately beyond the old railway bridge in the park.

Because of this history, the Stray is a naturally low-lying area subject to constant flooding during the winter months resulting in sections of the path regularly being reduced to quagmire.

Green Sefton have tried spreading chipped wood on the paths on several occasions but in most areas these merely disappear into the mud every winter.

The two Green Party candidates are therefore proposing the laying of a proper raised gravel path in order to produce a useable route for walkers, mobility scooter users and cyclists alike and, in doing so, creating a valuable community asset linking adjacent areas of Churchtown, Crossens and Marshside to one another and to Botanic Gardens.

Importantly, such a path would create a car-free short cut for children and parents heading to and from the rear entrance to Churchtown school.

The present extensive muddy areas adjacent to the proposed path could also be planted with appropriate wild flower seeds and form an additional insect-rich feature to the walk.

This is a simple and relatively low-cost idea that would benefit a large number of people in the north of the town. It is the sort of solution candidates and existing councillors could so easily identify. It is also all too easy to talk about removing cycle lanes without looking for easy wins for people, nature and active travel in the town.

Dog fouling and litter in Birkdale are more than just nuisances; they hurt our civic pride and can harm wildlife.

If elected, I am committed to addressing the lack of public bins, the infrequency of street cleaning, and the desperate need for sterner dog fouling enforcement across Birkdale.

I am also determined to help organise community clean-ups to keep Birkdale tidy.

Random Southport photograph of the week!

The wind had dropped and the sun broke through, but it was still cool for mid April as LetsGo u3a UK joined Green Sefton for a guided walk at Ainsdale Local Nature Reserve.
Guests enjoyed singing Willow Warblers and Skylarks, Natterjack and Common Toad tadpoles and clouds of Vernal Mining Bees prospecting for nesting tunnels on sheltered dune slopes.
Thanks to all who joined us today.
Respect, protect and enjoy the #sefton Coast.

# **[Harrison Holidays makes a fundraising high break for Lancashire Mind](www.qlocal.co.uk/southport/news_list/Harrison_Holidays_makes_a_fundraising_high_break_for_Lancash...

Harrison Holidays has potted a fundraising high break for local charity Lancashire Mind thanks to the talents of professional snooker player Ian Burns and the hard work of its team. The Preston-based holiday business has presented £2,500 to Lancashire Mind, which is based in Chorley, but works across the county to make a difference to people’s mental health.

Central to the fundraising was a snooker event hosted by Harrison Holidays at their Southport holiday park, Riverside. Contenders had fun taking on Ian’s skills and seeing him showcase his mastery. The money made throughout the night was generously added to with a donation made by William Harrison of Harrison holidays.

Ian Burns is a professional snooker player from Croston in Leyland. He has played against some of the top players in the world including Judd Trump, John Higgins and Ronnie O’Sullivan, so the evening was a change of pace, but just as thrilling. From Southport future tournaments this year see him playing overseas, with his career having already taken him to China, Australia, India and across Europe.

Ian Burns, says, “The night was a great success, it was fantastic to see so many people support a brilliant charity in Mind Lancashire. I hope we can do something again in the near future and raise more funds for such an important charity.”

William Harrison, Owner of Harrison Holidays, says, “Thank you to everyone that came along and made our charity fundraiser a night to remember! The Coast & Country bar and restaurant at Riverside has never seen anything like it, but what a thrill it was to host Ian, showcase his skills, entertain our guests and raise money for a wonderful local charity. Lancashire Mind do magnificent work offering training, support and education in schools, the community and workplaces and we are proud to be able to add our help to this.”

David Dunwell, CEO of Lancashire Mind, says, "Thank you to Ian and Harrison Holidays for choosing to support Lancashire Mind through their snooker show case. Thank you to Harrison Holidays for hosting, the sponsors of the frames and to all those who donated towards the raffle and auction prizes. We had a wonderful evening and the impact of the funds raised will go such a long way to supporting the people of Lancashire."

Harrison Holidays has holiday parks in beautiful coastal and country locations across England; you can stay for a short break, extended holiday or even purchase a holiday home. To find out more about Harrison Holidays visit [www.harrisonholidays.com](www.harrisonholidays.com/).
