With respect and memories of a great man. Funeral details were in Covid times in 2021
It is with deep sadness we announce the death of Herbert Silcock (Snr). Herbert passed away peacefully at home on 20th January 2021 with his loving family around him. Aged 94 he was a devoted husband to his late wife Jane and loving father to Herbert, Pauline and Mark, proud Grandfather to Natalie, Serena, Nicola, Taryn, Caroline, Charlotte, and Emma. Great Grandfather to Jameson, Herbie, Scarlett, Remi, Gigi and Marcus and special father-in-law to Elizabeth, Carol, & Brian. Those we love do not go away, they walk beside us every day, may God take you and keep you in His care until we can be together again. Funeral arrangements: - Wednesday 10th February at 1.30pm Address: St James' Church, Lulworth Road, Birkdale, Southport, PR8 2BD. The funeral cortege will leave from Silcock's Funland at 12.45pm. Due to the imposed restrictions within the church, the family request anyone wishing to pay their personal respects are welcome to do so at the Pier Forecourt from 12.30pm. In 1565 an Irish Vessel was wrecked off the coast of North Meols, came ashore near the Old Pool and broke up. Her cargo was mainly sugar and potatoes, which were washed up in large quantities. From this event came the name “Sugar Hillock”, then a long bank not far above high water mark. The potatoes were used by the Villagers, and an ancient Scottish Encyclopaedia gives this event as the introduction of the potato to England, first grown in a place called the Meales in Lancashire. Sugar Hillock Chapel in Sunny Road, Churchtown, was the first building erected for the Methodists in 1816.
