🟡 Southport Football Club are today delighted to confirm the appointment of Darren Court as the club's full-time Commercial Manager. In addition to being a Southport native and SFC fan, Darren brings a wealth of experience across the commercial sector and has achieved remarkable success in previous roles at various clubs, including AFC Fylde, Preston North End FC, and Port Vale FC.

During his time at AFC Fylde, Darren demonstrated his prowess by securing the largest external shirt sponsorship deal in the club's history for the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons. Additionally, he generated record levels of commercial revenue for multiple non-league football clubs amid the challenging circumstances posed by the coronavirus pandemic.

At Preston North End FC, Darren's success has been recognised by former PNEFC Chairman Maurice Lindsay describing him as "the best Commercial Manager of a professional sports club I have ever had the pleasure of working with". Moreover, Darren's impressive credentials are further bolstered by his role as the Chairman of Greenloons Formby JFC, a grassroots football club he developed from inception with just eight children to now boasting over 150 players across eight age groups.

Darren will replace Mike Black, who served as the club's Head of Commercial throughout the 2023/24 season. Mike has taken the decision to retire from active duties at the conclusion of the current playing season however will remain with the club in a Directorship capacity. Mike's contributions were instrumental in supporting the club during the transitionary period following Big Help Group's acquisition of Southport Football Club. The club extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mike and wishes him all the best, and we look forward to seeing him at the Big Help Stadium, cheering on the lads throughout the upcoming season.

An interview with Darren is on our website.

# **Reform UK leaflet canvassing Southport - but is it Southport?**

A member told us today that the postman hand delivered this Reform UK Party Leaflet to his home promoting themselves in the Southport Constituency.

Only issue is the person lives in Ainsdale which is not part of the boundary comission changes for Southport - now being placed in Sefton Central.

Who got it wrong? Reform UK or the post office or even both?

Review: «Manchester Reed Trio» at Christ Church

It's a truism for a reason: times must fly when you're having fun, for though I've attended a good dozen of these midweek concerts by now, this one seemed the shortest— though it went beyond the usual 45 minutes these affairs take.

The Manchester Reed Trio, made by Bethan Roberts on the oboe, Rachel Fillheart on the clarinet, & Sarah Nixon on the bassoon, is an ensemble teeming with charisma, and that has certainly translated into their presentation, a fun-filled selection of songs that you'd call classics if reed trios had classics.

«I got rhythm» and «Summertime» by George Gershwin, arranged by Dennis Armitage, «Moon River» and the Pink Panther theme, both by Henry Mancini and both arranged by Ms. Roberts herself, and a very whimsical arrangement of the traditional «Lass of Richmond Hill» by E. Warren delighted the audience, which was heard giggling with mirth at the Trio's interpretation.

Amongst these pieces, a masterful arrangement of Bach's cantata «Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring», by Bill Holcombe, and Mozart's «Divertimento No. 4 KV 186/159b», of which the first movement was particularly well-received by an audience north of 200, completed the 50 minutes of musical joy that fell upon us amidst this sunny day.

On the subject of the audience, an almost full hall did not go without notice by the musicians, who remarked that an auditorium as full as Christ Church's was a «real treat» . It's clear by now that Southport, though a small town, is very big when it comes to supporting cultural manifestations. This enthusiasm surely is felt by visiting musicians, and today, reciprocated in spades.
