A member told us today that the postman hand delivered this Reform UK Party Leaflet to his home promoting themselves in the Southport Constituency.
Only issue is the person lives in Ainsdale which is not part of the boundary comission changes for Southport - now being placed in Sefton Central.

Review: «Manchester Reed Trio» at Christ Church
It's a truism for a reason: times must fly when you're having fun, for though I've attended a good dozen of these midweek concerts by now, this one seemed the shortest— though it went beyond the usual 45 minutes these affairs take.
The Manchester Reed Trio, made by Bethan Roberts on the oboe, Rachel Fillheart on the clarinet, & Sarah Nixon on the bassoon, is an ensemble teeming with charisma, and that has certainly translated into their presentation, a fun-filled selection of songs that you'd call classics if reed trios had classics.
«I got rhythm» and «Summertime» by George Gershwin, arranged by Dennis Armitage, «Moon River» and the Pink Panther theme, both by Henry Mancini and both arranged by Ms. Roberts herself, and a very whimsical arrangement of the traditional «Lass of Richmond Hill» by E. Warren delighted the audience, which was heard giggling with mirth at the Trio's interpretation.
Amongst these pieces, a masterful arrangement of Bach's cantata «Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring», by Bill Holcombe, and Mozart's «Divertimento No. 4 KV 186/159b», of which the first movement was particularly well-received by an audience north of 200, completed the 50 minutes of musical joy that fell upon us amidst this sunny day.
On the subject of the audience, an almost full hall did not go without notice by the musicians, who remarked that an auditorium as full as Christ Church's was a «real treat» . It's clear by now that Southport, though a small town, is very big when it comes to supporting cultural manifestations. This enthusiasm surely is felt by visiting musicians, and today, reciprocated in spades. ... See MoreSee Less

Have you ever wondered what the large brown boulders are on the beach near Victoria Road? We chatted with lead ranger Kate to find out more.
“There was a time when this stretch of coastline wasn’t cared for and protected as it is today.
The brown lumps you see are pieces of tobacco waste dumped between the 1950s and 1970s.
The waste can also be seen in the dunes creating solid cliffs and a nutrient rich compost that has encouraged an unnatural, flat blanket of nettles to grow.
The tobacco waste creates a barrier for natural sand movement and there’s currently very little natural dune vegetation or wildlife in this area.
But the good news is we’re starting to see signs of this area healing and regenerating thanks to the conservation work carried out as part of the Dynamic Dunescapes project.
At the start of 2022 we worked with specialist contractors to create two ‘notches’ or large wedge-shaped gaps in the dunes where the tobacco waste is. They replicate the natural undulations found in some of Formby's healthy frontal sand dunes.
The notches are successfully funneling wind-blown sand from the beach up over the dunes over-topping the tobacco leaf waste and rank vegetation.
Over time, marram grass will naturally recolonise, aiding in the formation of new rolling sand dunes and restoring a more natural dune habitat in this area.

# **[Labour's Patrick Hurley learns first hand the overwhelming demand on the NHS A&E](www.qlocal.co.uk/southport/news_list/Labour%27s_Patrick_Hurley_learns_first_hand_the_overwhelming...
Labour parliamentary candidate Patrick Hurley suffered a potentially life threatening burst appendix earlier this month and experienced first hand the overwhelming demand on the Accident & Emergency department. Thankfully Patrick has now fully recovered following treatment on the NHS.
Qocal asked Patrick to describe his experience in his own words.
I’m hoping to be Southport’s MP after the General Election, after the local Labour Party chose me last year to be their candidate. As someone with a strong belief in public services, you may expect me to make an argument in favour of the NHS, but I want to let you know from my own personal perspective just why I think the NHS is the best of us, and just how valuable it is to our country.
On 2nd April, I was out in Southport, as I am most evenings, knocking on local residents’ doors, and asking them to put their trust in me at the election. I’d not felt well all day, truth be told - I’d felt a bit queasy the night before, and had woken up on the morning feeling bloated and with indigestion, and I’d been in pain on and off all day - but I’m not the sort of person who’ll stop work just because of a bit of an upset stomach, so me and my volunteers went on with the canvassing session as arranged.
After about twenty minutes out on the new estate in Kew, though, I just couldn’t carry on. The pain was getting too much, and I collapsed on the pavement, unable to even continue walking, never mind continue campaigning. My wife was with me, so I asked her to drive me home so I could lie down for a bit. Instead, and for this I’ll never be able to repay her, she drove me to Accident and Emergency at the hospital. She’d recognised that it wasn’t just indigestion, but was actually my appendix that was the problem.
I got to A&E at 6pm, and the sign on the wall advised that the waiting time to be seen was between nine and ten hours. I’d now been symptomatic for 20 hours, and a quick search on google was showing me that an inflamed appendix can burst after 24 hours of symptoms, leading to up to a 5% chance of death. So it’s not over-the-top to say that the longer I was waiting, the greater the chance of dying. It turned out that my appendix had indeed burst inside me, and so the longer I was waiting to be operated on, the greater the chance of a worse outcome.
The underfunding of the NHS is not news to anyone, and I’ve made it one of my campaign priorities to reduce waiting times, but when it hits you personally, you get to realise the shocking state of the service first-hand. I’ve nothing but praise for the staff who saw to me, both in the emergency room, on the ward and also in the operating theatre. But the conditions they are working under are intolerable.
There were about 50 or 60 people ahead of me in the emergency queue, and the doctors and nurses were stretched beyond belief. I was lucky because I only ended up waiting seven hours to be seen, due to the severity of my condition, but when I was finally wheeled off to a ward at 1am, there were people still in the waiting room who’d been saying they’d been waiting to be seen since lunchtime. This is no way to run a health service in a prosperous country.
A lot of argumentative heat gets generated when people talk about political issues online, but the fundamental issue is that politics matters. The strategy set by the Health Secretary matters. The funding set by the Chancellor matters. The people appointed by them to run the NHS need to be the best people. And the number of frontline doctors and nurses, with the right training, matters.
If we get the wrong people at the top, with the wrong priorities, and the wrong approach, then we get outcomes like I witnessed. Emergency cases are left waiting until the middle of night to be seen by overworked, overtired staff, all while those people in government making the wrong decisions can afford to opt-out and seek private treatment instead.
I’m lucky. I got seen to just in time. I only had to spend three nights in hospital, and take a couple of weeks off work. I’m pretty much back to full health now, with only a little scar on my stomach to tell the tale. But imagine another 4 or 5 years of underfunding for hospital treatments, imagine another cohort of doctors deciding to leave the health service because of the conditions.
Like I say, I was lucky. But if the same happens to you in a few years time, the same level of service might no longer be available. If we want better public services, then we need to stand up and be counted, and vote for them.

At Thursday’s council meeting at Southport Town Hall, Sefton Conservatives have put forward 2 motions that directly affect Southport.
The first is about the controversial cycle lanes on Queens Road, Hoghton Street and Talbot Street and calls for the removal of the lanes at the earliest opportunity.
The second motion is on the proposed roll out of telegraph poles across Southport by Open Reach for fibre broadband, as opposed to installing the infrastructure underground in ducting.
Conservative Group Leader on Sefton Council, Mike Prendergast, is calling on all Southport councillors, regardless of political party, to support both motions.
Councillor Prendergast said, “Southport residents expect their local representatives to focus on the issues that, firstly, they are capable of addressing, rather than turning the council chamber into some kind of student union debating society, talking about issues over which we have no influence. Secondly, they want us to stand up for the issues that matter to them and directly impact on the lives of those in the area.
The cycle lanes that were installed have been disastrous for our town, nobody uses them, they’ve reduced town centre parking and accessibility and have harmed local businesses.
The roll out of telegraph poles to install fibre broadband by Open Reach, in a town that historically has never had them, will harm the visual amenity of many areas and reduce accessibility in the areas where they are installed. There is a clear alternative in the form of installing the cabling underground, and this is already being done by other broadband providers in the area.
Southport is unique and we want to do all we can to maintain its character. Open Reach are perfectly capable of adapting their rollout to suit the needs of a given area.
No one is opposed to installing better broadband, it will have huge benefits for our town but it needs to be done in the right way and without, what seems at times, quite heavy handed tactics and very little consultation and engagement with our local communities.
I sincerely hope that all Southport councillors support both motions, in their current form, to make it clear that we all support our town and the residents who live here.”

Not 30 years but not far off I have used them at several homes and business premises.Back in the 1990's John Eckersley began making blinds in a small workshop based on Shakespeare Street in Southport and Eckersley's Blinds LTD was established, fast forward to 2024 and Eckersley's Blinds has grown bigger, so much so that we moved to a bigger premises on Shakespeare Steet. We never imagined how much would change in 30 years for both us but also the business and how we would all grow with the business. We would also become known for being one of longest and most trusted, established companies in window dressings. When John retired 10 years ago, Sam (Johns daughter) and Steven (Johns son in law) officially took over and took the reigns from John, this is when the business began to flourish even more.
Over 30 years in this industry and our goals to always be the best and strive to deliver an outstanding level of customer service has stayed the same. We have 3 generations of returning customers because we focus on providing value for every customer, from the moment you are greeted either by telephone or in person, to having your blinds measured and fitted, you are always going to be treated with our upmost respect and we will go above and beyond to make sure that you are satisfied with the services that we have provided, this is why we have an excellent reputation for our quality of service and workmanship. ...
